I Choose...

Hey! Today I am going to tell you about imitation or faux leather and why it is better than the real one.

Instead of making coats and jackets of animal skins, this leather is made of other materials. There are many names under which faux leather may be sold, and these include leatherette, pleather, and naugahyde.

It is usually cheaper than using real animal skins. And you can save many animals using it! A few faux leather products are lighter and much easier to clean than are real leather products!

I have fake leather jacket and I love it. I know that I've helped some animals. I don't use real leather because I support living green and animal protection.

Have a nice day!

Porpoise and Save The Whales.

Hi! It is almost autumn! Lets enjoy the last moments of this summer!

Porpoise or mereswine are small cetaceans of the family Phocoenidae. They are related to whales and dolphins

Porpoises tend to be smaller but stouter than dolphins. They have small, rounded heads and blunt jaws instead of beaks. Their teeth are spade-shaped, whereas dolphins have conical teeth.

They are up to 2.5 meters or 8.2 ft long and weights 30 to 45 kilos or 66 to 99 pounds. Porpoises eat fish, squid, and crustaceans. They are found most commonly in small groups of fewer than ten individuals.

Info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porpoise

Save The Whales is very popular organization. Most of us have heard about it. Save The Whales educates people - children and adults -about whales and other animals, that live in water.

This organization has been created in 1977 by Maris Sidenstecker when she was only 14 years old. First, Maris and her mother sold T-shirts, then started to educate people.

Pollution, hunters, explosions and balloons kill water animals. Use environmentally friendly things and don't throw out balloons because they are very destructive to whales and other animals.

If you want to know why balloons are so bad and find out more, check out this page - http://savethewhales.org/
In the next article I am going to tell you about seals and The Whaleman Foundation.

Marine iguana and ASPCA.

Hi! Today I am going to tell about amazing animal and organization that is supporting animal adoption.

Marine Iguana (Amblyrhynchus cristatus) lives only on Galapagos Islands and these islands are protected by WWF. This iguana can dive over 10 metres or 30 ft into the water and it live by the ocean that's why it is called marine iguana.

Marine iguana is black or gray. They eat marine algae. Males are about 1.7 meters or 5.6 ft long but females are about 0.6 to 1 meter or 2 to 3.3 ft long. They weighs about 1.5 kilos or 3.3 lbs.

On land this animal is very clumsy but it is a great swimmer. The only way to get seaweed or algae is to swim deep into the ocean.

Sometimes in a period called El Niño, when there is no food for marine iguanas, they can decrease their length for about 20%!

Info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Iguana

ASPCA or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is against brutality and cruelty to animals.

This organization was made in 1866 by Henry Bergh. ASPCA supports adoption and donation to pet houses. This is the first and one of the biggest organizations in North America!

ASPCA helps injured animals and helps to arrest and to accuse people who are cruel to animals. This organization provides local and national leadership in three key areas: caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals and serving victims of animal cruelty.

You can read more and donate here - http://aspca.org/

In the next article I will tell you about Save the Whales and porpoise!

I choose...

Hi! I am starting new articles called I choose. I am going to write them once a week and in this article I will tell about things that I choose to help nature and why I use them. So I hope you like it!

My choice is Superdrug cosmetics - shampoos, shower gels, conditioners and so on. They have very aromatic products. I love this brand!

Superdrug is Britains second largest health and beauty retailer. They offer products from Nivea, Hugo Boss, Maybelline and more. But its own brand products are free from animal testing so they are good for vegetarians and vegans.

I really like cosmetics from this brand because it is very good and pretty cheap. Try it - you'll love it and you will help animals too!

In the next article I will tell you about pet adoption and about my adopted pet. Have a nice day!

Spectacled bear and PETA.

Hi! It's August already - the last month of the summer 2011! Today I am going to tell about an interesting bear and a very important organization for animals.

Spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus), also knonw as the Adean bear or ukuko, jukumari or ucumari is the last remaining short-faced bear.

It lives in South America - Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Argentina. They can live in rain forests, mountain meadows and seacoasts. There are about 2000-2400 specatcled bears only because of disafforestaion.

Spectacled bear has got black fur with abeige-coloured marking across its face and upper chest but not all Adean bears have those markings. Males can weight 100 – 200 kilos or 220 – 440 lbs, females 35 – 82 kilos or 77 – 181 lbs. Males are about 1.5 meters long.

They eat about 5 - 7% meat, they eat a lot of palm nuts, cactus, orchid bulbs and fruit. They don't attack humans. Spectacled bears are used in Chinese medicine and they are very expensive. Because of using them in medicine they are very rare now.

Info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectacled_bear

PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has over 2 million members right now. This organization is one of the biggest and most important for animals and nature.

PETA is against animal testing, eating meat, using animals in show-business and using skins for making leather. They educate people and believe that animals have rights too.

This organizations was made in 1980. First PETA's case was the precedent-setting 1981 Silver Spring monkeys case. They helped to arrest animal experimenter for the first time.

PETA has helped many animals and has made many campaigns against unfair people and organizations like McDonald, Donna Karan, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

You can support, donate and read more here - http://www.peta.org/

Giant panda and McCarthy's Wild Sanctuary.

Hi! Today is the last day of the July. I am going to tell about beautiful but rare animal - giant panda and wildlife sanctuary.

Giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a bear native in China. It eats 99% bamboo so sometimes it's called bamboo bear. Giant panda lives in central-western and south western China. Because of disafforestation, now they live only in some provinces. Giant panda is a symbol of China.

Fifty years ago there were only a few hundreds of pandas. People made WWF and the giant panda became a symbol of this fund.

A report shows that there are about 239 pandas living in captivity inside China. There are about 1 600 individuals living in the wild.

Sometimes pandas attack humans to defend them selves, not to kill. As I said, they eat 99% bamboo, the last 1% is not humans.

It weights about 150 kilos or 330 lbs and it is about 1.2 to 1.8 meters or 4 to 6 ft long. Giant panda has got black ears, muzzle, arms, legs, eye patches and shoulders, the rest of the fur is white.

It lives about 20 years in the wild and about 30 years in captivity. The oldest captive giant panda, female called Ming Ming, lived 34 years long life.

Giant panda eats about 9 to 14 kilos or 20 to 30 pounds of bamboo everyday!

Giant pandas are easy compared to clouded leopards.

McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary is an amazing place. Every year it heals many animals. This year McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary has cured hundreds of native animals that were sick, like foxes, pelicans, hawks and much more.

In this sanctuary work many volunteers. Director of this place is Mark McCarthy. He has worked with animals since 1972 and he love doing it! He has worked as a reptile keeper and collaborated with animal dealers. Mark has worked with many animals.

In 1990 mister McCarthy started his education program. For the past 16 years he has performed 6 000 wildlife programs reaching over 500 000 students in South Florida. It is very impressive! He has helped over 4 000 animals.

You can donate to this sanctuary and read more information here - http://www.mccarthyswildlife.com/.

Thank you for reading! In the next article I am going to tell you about PETA and spectacled bear. Let's help our nature and animals!

White tiger and WWF.

Hi! Many innovations in nowadays have been very helpful but they have done some bad things too. People burn and hew out many forests in whole world. And many animals are getting rarer and rarer each day.

White tigers (Panthera tigris) are very rare animals now. They have pale fur with gray or fair stripes, blue eyes and a pink nose.
Most of them are located one the Mainland of Southeastern Asia and in central and southern India.
They are larger then other tigers (about 3 meters or 9 feet and 10 inches long and weight 180-285 kilos or 400-628 pounds). One of 10 000 wild tiger births will result in a wild tiger. Pretty rare, isn't it?
White tigers pale color is caused by the recessive gene. They are not albinos. If two white tigers multiply, the cub will definitely be white.
The last white tiger seen alive was shot in 1958.

WWF is building a future where human needs are met in harmony with nature.

This organization helps nature and animals to collaborate with each other. WWF people are trying to save 19 of the world's most important natural places by 2020. They have been protecting nature for 50 years already. And they are doing very good! Places they try to protect:
  • Amazon
  • Amur-Heilong
  • Arctic

  • Chihuahuan Desert
  • Coastal East Africa
  • Congo Basin
  • Coral Triangle
  • Eastern Himalayas

  • Namibia
  • Northern Great Plains
  • U.S. Southeast Rivers and Streams
